Why do we buy?

Have you ever thought about why you buy things?  What motivates us to consume so much for our kids ?  Do we/ they really need all the "things" to have a happy and healthy childhood?

What good memories do you have about childhood?  My guess is that they aren't related to all the "stuff" and more about "experiences" with those who mean the most to you.

Many of our purchases are made out of either HOPE or FEAR or LOVE?

We hope our children will be occupied for a period of time.

We hope our child will achieve some goal, if they have this item.

We hope to impress others by dressing our children in brand name clothes.

We hope to compensate for mommy guilt.

We fear that our children may miss out on some advantage if they don't have the "thing" right now!

We love the item (because of a memory).

We think our child will love it and use it over and over again - and sometimes this is true and sometimes it is not.

We love that it is trendy (but yet not a good fit for your child)

Perhaps consider your overall vision for your child and your child raising and use that to guide your decisions about what to purchase.

What's the dream? for your home? for you? for your children? for your family? for your relationships?

Mindset matters - act upon your mindset  - with habits/routines and actions

Be intentional when considering the "items" that we purchase for our children

Is my life or my child's life more productive or happy with this item in it?

Is it supporting your dream or standing in your way?

Kids often get overwhelmed with too many clothes, too many toys, and too many choices.

Can I simply keep the amount of items that I can manage and be content with that?

As we move into the Holiday season and a new routine, it's a natural time to reset our spaces and belongings to best meet our needs at this time...move towards our DREAMS!  It's a good time to reset or build routines and systems that involve all family members.

Suggestions:

1. Perhaps consider a no or low buy week or month or consuming mindfully, as you reassess the contents that you already have and manage everyday.

2. Become a member of The Wonder Room - Use our lending center and help your budget, your home space, your child's development, and the earth.
