Kids need Community

Kids need opportunities to be around and interact with family members, friends, as well as other adults and children on a regular basis.  This type of time spending  "in community" helps children not only find their place within the community, but also builds skills that will last a lifetime.

A few of the benefits of being "In Community"

  • practice communicating with others

  • learn how to negotiate and compromise

  • understanding that other people may have different ideas and perspectives - and that is okay

  • develop healthy relationships with others

  • understand social norms for different settings

  • build confidence

  • build their independence

  • make mistakes and understand that it is an opportunity to learn - we all make mistakes

  • dance and laugh together

  • work together - teamwork

  • hold hands and stick together

  • other people are happy that you are here!

Find communities for your young children to spend time in on a regular basis, either with you and independently. (technology free in most cases)

  • meet-up with friends or family

  • traditions with family

  • playgroups of all types

  • storytimes

  • childcare or preschool or homeschool groups

  • sports activities or groups

The Wonder Room offers several opportunities each month to spend time "in community".
