Our Brains Love Simple Systems…

Here are a few strategies to wrangle kid items that I have either heard from other organizers or have used myself:

1. hooks over hangers - easier for kids to do by themselves

2. stuff the set of bed sheets into the pillowcase

3. sock basket near shoes - no searching for socks

4. each person has one type/color of socks - there is always a match

5. bins without lids for toys that are out to play or for clothes that don't need folding and hanging (bathing suits, underwear, pjs, etc.) - remove the extra steps of opening and closing the bins - just toss it in. Some things don't need folding - unless you really love folding.

6. Like things go together

7. treasure box - for all the little treasures - use the box to teach the limit - if the box is full and there is a new treasure, then decide what can come out

8. keep a donation bin in your kids closet/room - when clothes no longer fit or wanted - toss in bin/bag - when full - donate

9. store shoes/ equipment where you naturally drop them - if it is in your drop zone, limit the number per season and the off season shoes get stored in another space

10. give every category a home and use the home as your limit

These organization systems make life easier...they require less work.  Our brains and bodies love simple systems.

I hope this is helpful!
